Ephesians 4:22-24

  1. On Sunday, we read Ephesians 4:17-24 to get a larger context for today’s verses. In your own reading of the Bible, what benefits have you seen when you make sure to think about a Bible passage in light of its context? What tools help you understand the context?
  2. The fact that v. 22-24 are not commands, but reminders was mentioned several times on Sunday. What do we glean from the fact that Paul had to remind the Ephesians of these truths? How are we combatting truth amnesia in our own lives consistently?
  3. V. 22 talks about putting off the old self…we heard that this happens by the power of the Spirit and means we are no longer defined by our old self. In what ways have we seen the Holy Spirit work in our lives in putting off our old self?
  4. V. 23 talks about having the spirit of our minds renewed…it was talked about that this renewal happens through the ministry of the Word filling our minds with truth by the power of the Spirit. What are ways that we can be more intentional to fill our minds with truth? What are elements of life that compete to fill our minds?
  5. V. 24 talks about putting on the new self. A great contrast is made between the old and the new…what are the marks of the new life from this passage? How do these marks shape our thinking, feeling, believing, living, and loving? (Righteous, holy, true)
  6. At the end, we were exhorted to remember who we are as people in union with Christ, belonging to Christ. Why is it essential that Christians remember their identity in Christ this week? How does remembering your identity in Christ help you navigate this week?
