Matt showed in Psalm 23 that the Lord is our good and perfect shepherd who guides, cares, and protects us through all seasons of life. Specifically, Matt shared a story of his life where he deeply resonated with the words of verse 4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Matt shared that through this difficult time, God remained faithful and provided for him abundantly through this time by things like meeting his wife, and being given the opportunity to become a Pastor at MBC. Here is the question(s), and it's a big one: What is your testimony, and what are some major moments in your life, both good and bad, that God has shepherded you through? This could be God's kindness to you before you were saved and how he drew you to himself, how God saved you, specific trials he delivered you through and/or how he has and continues to bless and comfort you today. I hope that everyone in your group has time to share!
Here is some extra questions if everything goes quick!
1. What’s a passage of Scripture that has become familiar to you over time, like Psalm 23? How has God used that passage at various points in your life?
2. The first four verses of Psalm 23 give the image of God as shepherd. What stand out to you about God’s protection, provision, and care from this section? How have you experienced this type of committed love from God in your own life?
3. The final two verses of Psalm 23 give the image of God as the banquet host who lavishes us with extraordinary kindness. He does the work to prepare the table, make it safe and secure, and even blesses. What are examples of God’s kindness toward his people from other parts of the Bible? What are examples of God’s kindness toward his people today in our midst?
4. It was then connected that this Psalm points to Jesus as the truest and best Shepherd. Looking at John 10:14-16, how does it bring comfort to our souls to know that Jesus cares for his own flock so well?
5. How can the truths and promises of Psalm 23 encourage you to press onward in the faith in your personal life?
