Romans 10:11-21
1. The questions will go through the passage verse by verse as the sermon did so on Sunday.
A: Starting in v. 11, we see Paul continue to speak on salvation & highlights that salvation is the same for everyone…salvation is by grace through faith. What happens if you neglect either the grace of God in salvation or the necessity of belief in the gospel message in salvation?
B: We then moved into v. 12-13 to talk about salvation being for all types of people. We took time to unpack the idea that calling on the name of the Lord meant believing that God is capable to save. When have you called on the name of the Lord? How does even the act of calling on the name of the Lord serve as an example of God’s grace at work?
C: We also spent time in v. 12 talking about the lordship of Jesus, that Jesus isn’t only Savior…but Lord. That requires humility & submission on our part…why is it vital to embrace Jesus both as Savior & Lord?
D: Beginning in v. 14, we see the list of questions that Paul poses. We begin by seeing the importance of hearing the gospel. This verse implies that we are to speak the gospel. What has helped you/what would help you articulate the truth of the gospel?
E: Also in v. 14, it says, “believe in him.” Christian belief isn’t abstract, but in Christ. It was said on Sunday that, “true faith always has content…the facts of the gospel.” So what facts, or components, must be shared with a person in order for them to have an understanding of the gospel?
F: In v. 15, we read about the importance of sending and being sent. The role of the church is to send out in order to spread the gospel message. How can we, as community groups, get more involved in supporting those that have been sent by MBC?
G: The second half of v. 15 speaks about the feet of the one who is bringing good news. The idea is that sharing the gospel is a privilege, do we view it that way?
H: In v. 16-19, Paul examines the rejection of Israel to the gospel. One of the keys points in this set of verses is the difference between hearing the truth & obeying the truth. It was said on Sunday that, “It is possible to be exposed to the gospel & not believe it.” So what do we do when people are exposed to the gospel & yet remain in a position of rejecting the gospel?
I: In v. 20, it is clear that God has chosen to reveal Himself to the Gentiles. The Bible presents a vision of God choosing to reveal Himself rather than humanity finally finding God. Why is it important to understand the Biblical perspective on how God reveals Himself to humanity?
J: In v. 21, the rebellious nature is on full display. God has offered rescue & that offer has been rejected. It was said on Sunday that, “Anyone who wants to be saved, will be saved. But that’s the problem…we are by nature disobedient & rebellious.” How can you uphold both the sovereignty of God in salvation as well as the importance of response in salvation?
K: We ended with a charge to see the importance of gathering around God’s Word with God’s people, of seeing the privilege of sharing the gospel & rejoicing in the truth of the gospel. Which of these exhortations is most necessary for you to hear & act upon right now?
