Exodus 20:1-3

What comes to your mind when you think about the Ten Words, also known as the Decalogue or Ten Commandments?

During the sermon, it was said that the most significant aspect of the Ten Commandments is the God who gave them. The sermon also said that the essence of the Ten Commandments is love. What is your opinion of those two statements?

Yahweh clearly communicated in the Ten Words the way His people are to love Him. How did that demonstrate Yahweh’s lovingkindness towards His people? Who is one person that you need to demonstrate greater lovingkindness towards by clearly communicating with them?

Yahweh makes clear in verse 2 the two-fold reason that His people are to gladly obey His commands: Who He is and what He has done for His people. How have the Character and Attributes of God, along with the Work of God (The Gospel), helped you joyfully obey the commandments of God in 2026?

What does commandment #1 mean, and what makes it challenging for you to joyfully obey it?

Commandment #1 teaches us that God is solitary. What does that mean, and why does it matter?

At the end of the sermon, it was suggested that when we examine our hearts, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to see if there are any rivals robbing God of the allegiance, affection, and adoration due Him, we should “Follow the Money.” How does tracking what we have spent over the last six months help expose what may be rivaling our dedication to, delight in, and devotion to the LORD?

Three questions were connected to the “Follow the Money” test. First, do you give cheerfully, generously, and regularly to Memorial Bible Church? Second, do you give cheerfully, generously, and regularly to Missions (specific missionaries or missions’ organizations)? Third, do you give cheerfully, generously, and regularly to the poor (e.g., through the Care fund at MBC, sponsoring a child through Compassion, or Union Gospel Mission)? You do not need to answer these questions in your group, but will you answer and evaluate your answers to these questions and make the necessary adjustments for the glory of God?
