Matthew 24:3-14

1) As we enter the Olivet Discourse, how do you feel? Pastor Nate explained that this is a difficult section because many people disagree on a proper interpretation.

a) Do you feel overwhelmed by passages like these?

b) In general, do you feel confident in your ability to interpret the Scriptures?

 

2) What are the three broad options in interpreting the Olivet Discourse? (Answer: Preterist, Futurist, Historicist)

a) What is a simple summary of each view?

 

3) What does Jesus mean when he says, "The one who endures to the end will be saved."

a) How do you reconcile the idea that we are saved by grace and not by works, but we will only be saved if we endure?

b) How are you doing in the process of endurance? Are you barely hanging on, or are you running strongly?

c) How can we better help one another to endure? Christianity is not a solo adventure!

 

4) What is the task of the Church? What is the Church supposed to do according to this passage?

a) Will the Church succeed in proclaiming the gospel to the "whole world?"

b) How does the Great Commission play into the task of the Church?
