Ephesians 20:12

1. Read or recite Psalm 23 together.

2. Read Exodus 20:12.

3. What is the most popular phrase in the first 12 verses of Exodus, and why does the LORD keep repeating it?

4. How does remembering “whose we are” direct us toward the Gospel? 

5. Commandment #5 of the Decalogue is the first of the horizontal commandments and it serves as a bridge between the commandments concerning love for God and love for our neighbors. Why do you think honoring our parents serves as the foundation for how we treat others?

6. What does it mean to honor our father and our mother?

7. During the sermon, it was mentioned that children outside the home can publicly and privately hold their parents in the highest regard by caring for their parents’ needs, bringing joy to them, showing appreciation, and asking for forgiveness. Which of these stands out to you? 

8. When we, by the power of the Spirit, obey commandment #5 of the Decalogue, we are imitating Christ, being a light for Christ, and pleasing Christ. How does that reality help us or encourage us to honor our parents?
