Pastor Laurie Stuck

Matthew 15:21-31

Pastor Laurie gave us 3 points:

  • When we come to Jesus, we don't come with pride, but with humility.
  • We come to Jesus not with resistance; we come with persistance.
  • We come to Jesus not with doubt, but with faith.

Read Matthew 15:21-31 together.

1. Consider Genesis 22:1, Ex. 16:4, Ps. 17:3 and John 6:6; why does God test our faith?

2.  In what areas do you feel God is testing your faith...parenting, marriage, relationships, work, spiritually, physically...?  What are some of the outcomes of that testing for you?  Where are you resisting or prideful?  In what areas are you persisting with Christ's help?

3. There are many things to note about the Canaanite woman: her immediate response to Christ, her travel, her crying out, what she may have experienced as a mother, her humility, her persistance...what about this woman and this account interests you?  (Mark 7:24-30 also contains an account of the woman.)

4.  Pastor Laurie noted that there were at least three instances in this account, in which we might ask some why questions...for instance, Matt. 15:26.  We learned that there are roadblocks that Jesus put up to grow the woman's faith. What do these roadblocks do? What roadblocks are you experiencing?

5.  How did hearing about how extraordinary these healings were in Matthew 15:29-31, cause you to glorify God?

6.  What are you going to do with what you learned through this passage?  "When it is your time of testing, do you give up or plow through the roadblocks and trust Him even more?"
