Matthew 10:34-39

1. We began by being reminded that the call of Matthew 10 is not to casual discipleship, but devoted discipleship.

-What competes for the devotion of your life? (Time, attention, energy)

-What are the marks of the devoted disciple in our current context?

2. In Matthew 10:34-36, we see that the sword that Jesus brings divides relationships that are precious...

-What are the reasons you've heard that people reject the gospel?

-How is hostility seen for following Christ in our current context?

3. In Matthew 10:37-38, Jesus points out the one who is worthy to be a disciple as the one who submits to Jesus as Lord over all.

-When presented with these verses, how does it change the way we talk about what it means to follow Christ? Both among Christians & those considering Christianity?

-We mentioned the hymn, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. What other hymns/songs do you enjoy for the lyrics of the songs?

4. We ended in Matthew 10:39 & the call to cling to Christ by the grace of God.

-What are examples of people holding on as tightly as possible to the hopes of this world?

-What are examples of people who have clung to Christ till the very end of their lives?

-John 15:4 was referenced, what are "fruits" in life that are generated solely by abiding in Christ?
