Exodus 1:8-22

.) In what ways have you personally seen God’s providence working in difficult or unexpected circumstances? How does knowing that God keeps His promises bring comfort during trials?

.) Do you fear man rather than God? What does it look like to fear God rather than man in today’s culture? How can we cultivate a greater fear of God in our daily lives?

.) Despite Pharaoh’s efforts to oppress the Israelites, they multiplied even more. How does this demonstrate God’s power over human schemes? Can you think of situations where suffering or hardship led to unexpected spiritual growth or blessing?

.) Pharaoh’s leadership was driven by worldly wisdom, resulting in suffering for those he ruled. How can we seek and apply godly wisdom in our own leadership roles, whether in family, work, or ministry? What practical steps can we take to grow in wisdom?

.) The midwives defied Pharaoh’s command because they knew the murder of children was evil. How can the church today stand for the sanctity of life in a way that honors God? What are some practical ways we can lovingly speak truth into a culture that devalues life?

.) The midwives lied to Pharaoh to protect innocent lives. Is it ever appropriate to lie to prevent evil? How do we reconcile situations like these with the biblical command to speak truth? What principles can guide us in complex moral decisions?

.) Why do you think God allows suffering to accomplish His purposes? How can trusting that “all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28) change the way we respond to hardship?

.) Pharaoh’s decree to cast all sons into the Nile paints a dark ending to the chapter, yet God was preparing to raise up a deliverer. How can we hold onto authentic hope and genuine peace when circumstances seem overwhelmingly dark? Where do you need to trust in God’s promises today?
