Exodus 4:24-31
- Read Exodus 4:24 - 31.
- This first half of this week’s passage was quite bizarre. What other narratives in the Bible do you find bizarre?
- What did you find fascinating or confusing about the first half of this week’s text? What questions do you still have about today’s narrative?
- Moses failed to fulfill a certain responsibility as a husband (the circumcision of one of his sons) which led to his wife shouldering that responsibility in the midst of a difficult situation and ultimately it resulted in great tension between Moses and Zipporah. Husbands are there currently any responsibilities which you should be fulfilling but your wife is fulfilling them in your stead?
- Zipporah circumcising her son and throwing his severed foreskin against Moses' feet took place in public, and those who saw it probably passed down what they witnessed to other generations. What have you publicly witnessed that you have passed down or will pass down to your children and grandchildren?
- In verses 27 – 31 we continually witnessed God’s veracity or His truthfulness. Describe a time in which the veracity of God served to comfort, encourage, or strengthen you.
- The Israelites worshipped God because He paid attention to them, He shepherded them. The LORD is always paying heed to His people, but recount a time when you clearly experienced the LORD paying close attention to you.
- How does recalling that the LORD is our shepherd stir your affection for Him and compel you to worship Him?
- During prayer, spend some time exalting Yahweh.
