Ephesians 2:1-3

In this passage, Paul expounded the condition of every person prior to knowing Christ. Paul stated that we are dead without Christ, we are enslaved to sin without Christ, and we are condemned without Christ.

  1. We talked about the different ways that people view human nature. Some view it as good, some view it as bad, and some view it as sick. Prior to this message, what was your view of human nature? Why?
  1. Why does Paul use the word dead in this passage?
  1. What are ways you can scripturally debunk the myth that humans are “essentially good”?
  1. Prior to knowing Christ, we all lived in the passions of the flesh, desiring the things of this world and being influenced by Satan. We were enslaved to sin. As uncomfortable as it may be to share, what are the ways that you lived in your flesh prior to knowing Christ? Take this opportunity for the members of your group to share their testimony briefly.
  1. By remembering whom we were prior to knowing Christ, the believer should be left in awe at the atoning work of Christ on the cross on our behalf. Take this time to sing a song, hymn, or read a psalm and rejoice in the fact that we have been saved!
