1 John 2:12-14

1. In the midst of all the questions & exams, John pauses to offer encouragement. What’s the role of encouragement in the Christian life, how necessary is it? How can you encourage brothers & sisters in the faith around you purposefully?

2. In 1 John 2:12, John writes to all believers & states that they are forgiven & “for his name’s sake.” In evangelism, why is it vital to explain WHY a person needs forgiveness, HOW a person experiences forgiveness, & TO WHAT END this forgiveness is delivered?

3. In 1 John 2:13, John speaks to the spiritually mature, the spiritually immature, & to all believers. What are marks of Christian maturity? How does a person grow in spiritual maturity?

4. From 1 John 2:14, John repeats his statement of encouragement to fathers from the previous verse. Pastor Nate mentioned that this highlights that no one graduates from the gospel, that we are all prone to truth amnesia, that there’s a beauty that can be admired over & over again, & that this news is enormous & should be savored. How have you experienced each of these aspects of gospel news in your Christian experience?

5. The passage from 1 John 2:14 ends by connecting strength with abiding in the Word of God. When you prioritize the Word, permeate yourself in the Word, & practice the truths of the Word…how does God use this to give strength?

6. We ended with the question: “are you wielding the Word well?” So what are ways you want to discipline yourself to use the Scriptures well?
