Matthew 15:1-9

1) What was your takeaway from the message?

2) This passage highlights the question of whether our allegiance is to the word of man or the Word of God. What are ways that we elevate the word of man in our lives? How can we elevate the Word of God more?

3) Pastor Nate said that MBC practices two traditions each Sunday morning: 1) we stand for the reading of scripture and 2) we recite the words, “Amen and Amen.” These traditions come from Nehemiah 8:6. What other traditions have you adopted that help practice Biblical living? Are there any meaningless traditions that you would like to move away from?

4) Read Isaiah 29:13. What does modern-day hypocrisy look like in the North American Church? What are some solutions to address this problem? How can we act locally to foster a more genuine, biblical community here at MBC?

5) Pastor Nate closed by observing that it was out of love that Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and Scribes that they might repent and believe. He said, “We need to courageously, humbly, compassionately, gently and wisely tell those who are dead in their sins that they need to come to Jesus for salvation.” Spend some time as a group naming and praying for the lost people in your friendship circles that the Lord would lead them to repentance and belief in Him.
